Norwood has partnered with Horizons Greater Washington since 2010 to host Horizons students during the summer and on select Saturdays during the school year. This past summer, 110  students in grades 1-9 spent six weeks at Norwood working on academic skills including reading, math, art, coding, and Maker Space projects; went on 26 field trips; took a total of 1,980 swimming lessons; and enjoyed countless hours of enriching summer fun. 


At the Walkathon, you'll get to learn about Horizons from Norwood teachers, alumni, and students who have worked in the program while raising funds to support their work.

HOW:  Register online for easy payment by credit card! 
Registration fees: 
$10 per walker
$35 for a family of 4 or more

​​WHEN: Sunday, October 15, 9:00 am - 11:00 am -- arrive any time after 9:00 am and finish your walk by 11:00 am.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: The Walkathon will NOT be cancelled due to rain alone. In the event of a lightning strike or the sound of the horn at Congressional Country Club, all Walkathon activities will be suspended for 30 minutes. In the event of extreme weather, the Walkathon will be cancelled. Please note that all registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, even if the event is cancelled.

WHY:  All proceeds from the Walkathon benefit Horizons Greater Washington, a transformative educational enrichment program serving low-income public school students with a broad range of academic abilities. Through Horizons, students gain the tools and support they need to become successful and confident college-bound young adults. Specifically, Horizons aims to:​

​​WHAT:  The Horizons at Norwood Fall Walkathon is a fun, family-friendly event for the entire Norwood community. The Walkathon will take place entirely on Norwood’s beautiful campus, and strollers and dogs are welcome.  Plus enjoy outdoor fun and games and learn more about the summer program from Norwood teachers, alumni, and students.

LOOKING FOR THE 5K?  The Horizons at Norwood 5K & Fun Run will return in the fall of 2018!

WHERE: The course begins in front of the Middle School entrance and loops around the playing fields facing River Road. One loop is roughly 0.7 miles. Do as many or as few as you like!


Please note that access to the school for the Walkathon will be from Bradley Boulevard only. All other entrances will be closed for the safety of walkers. Parking will be available in the Lower School lot.
